56. Digital mock up of website

http://chrisbreezybrown.weebly.com/

Mock website made by myself, preparing for making my final LamieLDN website.

55.Digital Mock up of Digipak

54. Costume that artist will wear

The photos used for my ancillary products will be a close ups of Lamie LDN's face, she  will be wearing plain clothing along with the same makeup and hoop earrings that she wears in her music video. This will create synergy and allow her audience to recognise her from her music video and link all 3 of the music video, digipak and website together.

53. Photos for ancillary products

I short listed down to these two photos,

As mentioned earlier in my blogs the photos will be made black and white and cropped so it is a close up of just LamieLDN's face.

49. Analysis of similar genre's websites

Adele's website

The links in the website take you to photos, music videos, albums, memberships, i tunes, amazon, tour dates and videos of Adele.
A lot of the images used on the website are from her most recent album. The rest are mainly mid shots and close ups.
The fonts are the same throughout the website and the same as her new album. There are more images over text.
The website language is quite informal, Adele even has a personal message to her fans.
Overall the mise-en-scene is simplistic and she uses a black and white theme with small touches of red.

After looking at Adeles website I feel like she has a similar brand image to LamieLDN as they are both Soul artists. I would like to use some of the ideas from her website such as a personal message from Lamie LDN.

Sam Smith's Website
The links take me into the site, tour dates, pictures, membership, social media and new songs. There is a wide range of images used on the website, some very casual, some from his album and then others close ups. There is generally more images then text and apart from Sam Smiths  name always appearing in bold chunky writing, the rest of the writing is small.

After looking over Sam Smiths website it has given me ideas of including lots of different images of LamieLDN and also having the name LamieLDN all over the website.

48. Analysis of similar genre's digipaks

Similar Album covers - Adele and Sam Smith
The central images on Adele's Digipak are close ups of her face, the closeup on the front cover is her looking straight into the camera whilst the one on the back is her looking at an angle and we see some of her shoulder in the image. Close up's of Adele allow her audience to recognise the album as Adele's from seeing her videos and advertisements. This is a form of Synergy. Another form of synergy is also the filter used over the album as this filter is also used in Adele's 'Hello' video.

A white thin boxy font is used on the front and back of the Digipak. This matches the black and white theme of the album. The same font is used on Adele's website. This is another form of synergy. A contrasting red is used for the numbers.

The image on the front has no text but on the back their is a lot of text. Including a list of all of the songs, barcode, copyright rights and record companies.

The overall colour reflects the genre as soul music is generally about sadness and sorrow. Adele's album is about heartbreak so the black and white filter suggests sadness.

The front of the Album is a mid shot of Sam Smith looking downwards. On the back there is no picture, instead just a grey/black background.

The font is Bold capital white letters. The name 'SAM SMITH' is larger than the rest of the font. This makes it even more apparent along with the image that it is Sam Smith's album.

On the back of the Digipak there is a list of songs in the middle of the album in the same white font that is used all over. It also has Sam Smith's website, record company and a barcode.

Synergy is used in the album as the font and colour schemes link in with the website. Sam smith also has a similar colour scheme in the stay with me video.

The album colours may relate to the genre of soul, a lot of Sam's songs on the album are related to heartbreak and have a deep meaning.

47. Summary of class discussion

Summary of class discussion

In the class discussion we have went over the reasoning and needs for promotional items such as digipacks and band/artist websites.

Digipacks are essential items as they're the presentational items of the artist they create a star image for the artist making them become more noticeable to their core audience. Most typical digipacks consist of the artist in some sort of close-up format so they can become a strong iconic artist. There are many different codes and conventions that all digipacks have, such as parental advisory, distributor logo, record label, CD format. Title. Artist name.

Websites is a different way to bring the audience closer to the artist and have a connection towards their artist. They achieve this by making it more intimate so that the audience can relate and that the artist is only human being. The website exploits the common grounds that the artist and core audience share such as stuttering or mistakes to make them feel more equal.

Last editing day - Target audience's changes and green screen

After our feedback yesterday we arrived early to quickly fix the problems and then add in the green screen.
To start with we had to substitute a few base tracks with others so that the story had more of a structure/narrative. For example, rather than the fire scene just randomly coming in in the middle of a verse it now came in at the start of the bridge where there is a change in the tone of the music.

After this we had to slightly shift some of the base tracks to make sure they were more edited to the beat, rather than the base tracks just changing in the middle of words. Overall this made the video flow much more fluently.

Once this was done and we was completely happy with the changes, we went into after effects and done the green screen moving picture effect. (This was mentioned in our pitch). This consisted of us tracking the movement of the green paper, adding the video onto the paper, then cutting around LamieLdn's hand so it was visible over the video and looked as though she was holding the video.
We then added a black and white filter so it matched the other memory videos and once we got back into Premier pro added in a zoom in effect so it created the illusion of us going into the memory through the picture.

Editing on 3rd of December - black and white scene

Following on the previous day, it was now time to add in the boyfriend scenes. We wanted the boyfriend scenes to look like past memories and flashbacks, to put this message across to the audience we decided to place a black and white filter on all of the memory scenes with the boyfriend. This showed that those scenes had a significant difference to the rest of the video.

By the end of the day we managed to have a finished product of our music video. We completed glitches from the previous day and was ready to lastly add in our green screen. However before this was done, we decided to get a target audience member to look at our video.

Unfortunately our target audience member felt like she could not see a clear structure in the video and thought that the editing was not on the beat enough. Although this was disappointing to hear we decided to listen to our audience and make these changes to our video tomorrow.

Planning for evaluation question 3

APPOLAGIES: At the beginning of the video I accidently say question 2 however this is the plan for evaluation question 3.

Editing session 2nd December

In today's lesson we edited the video from day to night. For the first two minuets of the song we edited it to be the day time, showing LamieLDN in house hold scenes. We transition to night via the fire scene where there is a long shot of LamieLDN singing to the fire. From here onwards we jump back and forth from day to night scenes. We plan to edit in the green screen tomorrow.

Feedback from Roughcut

Reflection on filming on the 25th November

Overview of todays editing

Toward the end of the lesson we also made a decision that we are going to have the video go from day time to night time so that the video does not look unorganised and has a structure. We also are now thinking of using a filter on the scenes where we flash back to memory's of LamieLDN with her boyfriend. This will differentiate that part of the video to the rest of the scenes showing that that particular scene is not set in the same time frame that the rest of the video is.

Working on editing and blogging in the lesson

What techniques in Premiere Pro are used and why?

In Premiere we have used certain effects to alter the music video clips such as slow-mo by extending the rate. We done this by stretching the clips to a certain extend of where all of us in the group decided that it was perfect. We decided to this as many of the music videos we have watched introduce some sort of slow-mo in their music video. We also used motion to zoom into certain section so we could crop out a part of a clip so it would only show half of a clip that we wanted to keep within the work.

Have or will you change the colours on any of the shots?

No we won't change any colour changes or filter within our shots because we wanted to reflect the realistic look as our video is amplification.

Did or do any shots need the brightness or contrast changing? why?

In our previous clips we decided to change the brightness and contrast so that it would appear more well-lit but in the end it still up to our standards of being perfectly bright. On top of this it was also pixelated because of the high amount of brightness and contrast so in the end we didn't go with the clips. Although our new clips are perfectly lit with dedo lights so we didn't need to adjust any brightness or contrast.

What about any text (font styles)?

So we will add a title so they know the name of the song other than that we won't be using any other text. The font style will be helvetica or another typeface that matches to our website/digipaks

What effects or transitions are used/will be used?

We will have fades in and fade out on certain clips so they noticeable within between clips. The only other effects are slow-mo and motion which we explained in the 1st question.

Did or do you need to change the cut of the video differently to what was originally planned? If so, what did you have to and why?

We decided to change some the cuts and added additional clips so it didn't follow exactly how our storyboard but it had similarities. This was so it replicate the same features as music videos in the music video industry such as slow-mo but as well fast pace cuts to create the quick motion of music videos.

What is left to do to the cut and how will you do it?

There are only small amount to cut and it will be decided upon groups discussion on what we would like to cut but be same as the storyboard in some aspects. Since its only a rough cut we're deciding to film more later on and add extra video clips.

Fire Burning scene - Residents permission

For the fire burning scene as it was initially going to be filmed at the end of my road however we asked permission from Redbridge Council (Local Council) and they told us we was unable to film there. Instead we will now be using the back of my garden.

Fire bins create a large flame and a lot of smoke. For this very reason i will be informing neighbors around me about out media coursework and the use of the fire bin.

Changing our idea slightly

This blog is to notify a change in our story line. We will no longer be including the glass smash and argument scene in our video. This is for two reasons:

The first being we filmed all of the glass smashing scenes and the lighting and quality of the film was not great. Below is one of the shots we filmed of the glass being smashed...

The second reason being, we decided to start our filming over again but with a new camera, as the lighting was not coming out as we initially envisaged when pitching our idea.
Realistically, we do not have enough time to re shoot all of the glass smashing scene with the new camera as it is very time consuming.
Using the shots we already have isn't possible as its with a different camera so the glass smashing shot would look different to the rest of the music video. Also we do not like the shots we already have of this scene.

We have decided to substitute this idea with a short series of fast discontinuous editing showing introducing each base track to the audience.

Another change we will be making due to not having the glass smashing scene is there will only be one guy in the video as it would not make sense to have more than one guy without the dialogue from the glass smashing scene.

Whats been filmed already? Review

So far we have filmed the Kitchen scene and the Granary Square scene. However all the clips that were filmed were quite dark because the camera as well as the lighting appeared much brighter in real life than digitally. In the end we have decided to redo some of the clips again since they didn't come out exactly how we expected it to be. Another reason why we would like to film again is that the clips came out very grainy in the review/editing of the music video. The video is displayed down below to show what has been pointed out.

Decided to reschedule filming times within the upcoming weekends from 14th-18th of November.

Filming Plan for long weekend

Overview of todays editing

Today we viewed and edited the footage that we recorded on wednesday the 4th of november at moniques house. These were the scenes were LamieLDN has an argument with her boyfriend. We had a very sucessful day however we would like to film again and iprove the lighting.

Reflection on blogging health check 2

I am pleased with my blogging feedback where I scored an 18/20 grade A. There is now a clearer brand image to our blog however in order to improve this we need to have more pictures of LAMIELDN as there is not a full sense of her image on the blog. For me to improve my score to 20/20 I will set up a photo shoot for LamieLDN to show her audience her image.

Reflection and needed improvements on filming on the 27th

Filming on the 27th of October

Filming on Tuesday 27th of October:

Today we filmed at Granary Square in Kings Cross, from 5-9 pm. We managed to get the amount of footage that we wanted however due to issues that we found when we arrived some scenes had to be altered.
The only problem we came across was the lighting issue. We initially wanted to film next to the water fountains, however the lighting was not good enough for LamieLDN and Boyfriend number 2 to be seen,so instead we decided to film the water fountains as just a small clip instead of a base track. We then found another aesthetically pleasing place right next to the fountains, where there was put in lights so LamieLDN and boyfriend number 2 was able to be seen.

A side note for next time we film in a different location is to have speakers in place in order for LamieLDN as well as the camera are able to hear the music so she can lip sync along and we can easily edit afterwards.

Overall filming today was a success and I look forward to filming our next scenes and base tracks in our different chosen locations.

27. Final idea

Final Idea

Our song choice: Amy Winehouse - You know i'm no good

Artist: LamieLDN

We have decided to give with the song choice of 'You know i'm no good' as we thought the voice of Amy Winehouse suited our artist's look. The costuming and makeup style was also inspired by the original music video. Throughout the scenes we were inspired by other music videos such as Rihanna - Love the way you lie which is a song that contains fire that we have wanted to put into our music video but on a small scale such as fire bin with burning photos. We also took features from Sam Smiths - I'm not the only one as it was strong illustration music video about cheating as well so we took aspects as using items as key props to tell some background story whereas ours will contain glass wine representing sadness and heartbroken drown herself in alcohol. We wanted our visuals itself explain a story without even audio but with audio it would make the understanding much more clearer through lyrics.

We hope to have many bases tracks throughout the music video to keep viewers interested while watching our music video. Our artist herself will be wearing quite casual clothing such as jeans and jacket to dress dependent on scene although we want our costume to change every scene. Key synergy items are the wing eye-liner, wine glass and will be seen across other promotional platforms.
The locations decided are Granary square, Monique's house, White wall as these area are aesthetically pleasing and also show relation on how the artist feels in certain area.

PITCH - Industry

Lamie LDN is signed to Amy Winehouses independent record label LIONESS RECORD LABELS.

She is similar to other artists who are signed to this record label such as;
 Dionne Bromfield
Liam Bailey

These few of the artists that have joined this record label are similar in genre as our amy winehouse who is also the founder of the record label. We have decided this would be the best choice as it related to us because we're also a independent artist and would be a great starting point.

It will allow us to have more creativity and freedom of choice to plan and how we would like our overall outcome of the music video to come out as the final piece.

32 . Technical run through PITCH - Green screen (mini) Monique Reynolds-Blanche

We have used a mini green screen which is the size of a photograph. Our idea is for the picture to turn into reality , (one of the base tracks).

I done a test run of this so i know what do do when i am editing. I edited in ADOBE AFTER EFFECTS. When it comes to editing the real thing there is a mask tool which I will draw over LamieLDN's hand in order for it to appear that her hand is still holding the picture.

The idea of base tracks appearing within base tracks also happens in Amy Winehouse's original video for the song:
